Objective: Nurture and maintain safe learning environments that encourage and support teaching and learning.

• District Support and Response Team
• An effective collaboration between law enforcement officials and school personnel.
• An articulation plan of action between feeder school districts and ourselves that includes bridges built on transition interventions that address the needs of incoming 9th graders.
• Develop partnerships with city governance that will address safety and quality of life concerns within our schools and community.
• Implementation of effective interventions that include:
Progressive discipline
Student behavior contracts
Anger Management referral program at each site
Trained personnel at each site in Conflict Resolution techniques
District Peer mediation programs at several sites
Drug/Alcohol Diversion program
Utilization of outside resources for anger management, and 12-step drug/alcohol programs (U-Can, Try Again, AV Light Foundation)

• Establishment of Effective Anti-Gang activities that include:
Placing a trained designated gang investigator at each site
Work relations with local law enforcement
Ongoing site presentations on gang awareness
• Staff In-services that are coordinated with local law enforcement agencies
• An Anonymous Telephone Tip Line
• Community Forums
• Articulated efforts with feeder school districts that include targeted intervention strategies
• Research based curriculum emphasizing anti-drugs and violence required for all 9th grade students with follow-up lessons at the 11th grade
• Safe Schools Coordinators (Title IV) at each site whose responsibility is to collect and study data relative to discipline
