“Looking at the test scores year-to-year is not as accurate an indication of student performance as long-term trends,” said Deputy Superintendent of Educational Services, Ray Monti. “Even with the significant gains last year, our analysis centered on the three-year trends.”
A student is administered the SAT 9 test in the five core content areas (reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies) each year during their freshman, sophomore, and junior year. Therefore, the District receives 15 scores each year.
Over the four years of the state STAR testing program, students scores are up in 12 of the 15 areas, scores are even in two areas and down in one.
Furthermore, District officials believe that test scores will continue to show an improvement trend when the STAR testing program is completely aligned with the California standards.
“We look forward to the day when the testing program is completely aligned with what the state requires us to teach,” commented Deputy Superintendent Ray Monti.
