January 16, 2013 Board Meeting
Board Highlights is a communiqué from the AVUHSD Board of Trustees to the employees of the AVUHSD.
Reports and Presentations:
Antelope Valley High School ASB students Capricieo Ring, Ruth Quintanilla, Jasmine Rivas, Elina Moya, Kern Pape, and Shelbie Highsmith presented to the Board information specific to each class level Senate and their individual responsibilities and goals. Specifically, the Junior Class is preparing for this year’s prom to be held at the University of Antelope Valley, and the Senior Class orchestrated homecoming and the Martin Luther King Day of Service activities.
2011-12 Audit Findings – The District received the highest designation in the annual audit report for the 2011-12 school year.
Powerschools Report – Dr. Larry Freise reported that Powerschools is able to provide the reports needed to maximize what the school district receives in annual allocations based on attendance.
From CSEA:
CSEA President Mr. Scott Fish stated that it was good to see everyone following the winter break. He thanked all those involved in getting people their retro pay in a timely manner. In addition, CSEA is looking forward to entering into negotiations for the 2013-14 school year.
From AVTA:
AVTA President Mr. Dan Shy also expressed that AVTA was looking forward to the upcoming negotiations. He also commended Jan Medema regarding her help with an employee issue.
From the Board/Superintendent:
Superintendent Dr. David Vierra reminded everyone of the CSBA Webcast on Thursday regarding the Governor’s budget proposal for 2013-14.
Student Member Mr. Anthony Barros hoped everyone had a great winter break. He also expressed he is looking forward to his final semester of high school.
Board Member Mrs. Donita Winn expressed she was thankful to be back after the break and looked forward to the rest of the year.
Board Clerk Ms. Kathy Carothers is looking forward to an improving economy and better possibilities for the coming year.
Board Member Mr. Jim Lott relayed how much he values faculty and staff throughout the District and looks forward to the remainder of the year.
Board President Mrs. Barbara Willibrand also expressed there seems to be a little flicker of light in the economy which hopefully benefits our budget issues in the near future.
The meeting was adjourned in honor of John Fors, Mark Uhlberg, and Pastor Forte.
