Schedule of Site Visitations for Budget Development

SUBJECT:    Site Visitations Schedule 2010-11 Budget

It is the beginning of another new year and with that comes the task of building our school district budget for 2010-2011.  California is still facing significant fiscal challenges in attempting to balance revenue with expenditures in an economy that is struggling to regain its vitality.  Once again we are hearing that revenue will fall short of projections and there is a structured gap between what we can afford and current obligations of approximately $20 billion statewide.  California public schools must brace for continuing funding constraints from our state while still providing the best we have to offer to our students.  While our economic forecast is framed with the continuing recession, we have been creative and resilient in finding ways to absorb our economic reality during the past several years, and I am confident we will once again rise to the challenge in 2010-2011.

Open communication with all staff is essential to deal with the impact of pending fiscal constraints.  Therefore, we have scheduled site visitations to discuss the 2010-2011 budget.  During these visits, staff will share the latest information from Sacramento and speak with employees concerning budget reduction targets and strategies.  Meetings will be conducted at comprehensive school sites, though employees may attend at sites other than their designated workplace.  Alternative educational sites and support staff should attend on the date and location indicated, as desired.  All meetings are scheduled from approximately 3:00 to 4:00 pm.  Attendance is voluntary.
