Home Study is the district's program for families where the parents want to home school their children but want a connection to an accredited high school. It is open to any family residing in the area of the Antelope Valley Union High School District who meet certain criteria.

Once the application is filled out, it is returned to the "home site school" (the school that the student would attend if he were going to regular high school in the district). It is reviewed by that school's alternative placement committee. If the application is approved, it then goes to the Home Study Program where a teacher contacts the parent to be sure that this is an appropriate placement. If it is, an appointment is made for the parent and student to register.

The parent is the teacher and works with the district's Home Study teacher to provide an appropriate course of study for the student, following the district-approved curriculum. The student and parent set up a plan for completing the required work at home. The student and parent, both, come to the Home Study classroom for testing, at least once per week. The parent is responsible for monitoring the student while testing, grading tests taken, and going over the results with the student.

Possible criteria for enrollment in the Home Study Program:
Previously enrolled in a home study program
Read at grade level
Clean discipline record
Self motivated
Good relationship between parent and student
Parent committed to the student's education
Parent available to attend weekly scheduled testing
On track for graduation
